Weight Restriction for CGP

Notice circulated by CPA regarding weight limitation 30,480 Kgs for 20″ & 40″ container (CHITTAGONG/BANGLADESH)

Chittagong Port Authority has issued a circular on maximum gross weight 30,480 Kgs (includes: Cargo + tare weight) that shall be maintained for 20” & 40” sized container (attached). Also note, the weight limitation is applicable for all inbound units at Chattogram Port, ICD Kamalapur, Mongla and Pangaon shipments. If any inbound unit exceeds the mentioned weight limit, then MLO or her operating agent shall obtain special discharge permission & arrange transportation for such over-weight containers at their own risk and cost.

It is noteworthy to mention that the gross weight appears in BL only reflects the cargo weight & doesn’t include container weight or tare weight. Hence, the gross weight computation of BL as per CPA’s guidance must be maintained as below:

For 20FT unit: Total Weight 30,480 KGs – tare weight 2,300 KGs, so the gross weight of BL shall not be exceeded 28,180 KGs.

For 40FT unit: Total Weight 30,480 KGs – tare weight 4,100 KGs, so the gross weight of BL shall not be exceeded 26,380 KGs.
